“Come on in! The Water’s Fine.”

Eddie C3 has added a photo to the pool:

“Come on in! The Water’s Fine.”

Say “Hello” to Tundra. I believe he is seventeen years old now and has a pretty big spread for a New Yorker. Not much space for a polar bear but he rarely seems unhappy. He gets in the water and plays with his toys often. I think he knows he is a favorite of school children and enjoys the attention.

Tundra lives in the Bronx and though he once had some company in his pool, he is pretty lonely now. Just over a hill of forsythia Jughead's voice has been gone for almost five years now but Tundra can often hear the old queen grizzlies Betty and Veronica calling out. Other days the young cubs Glacier, Kootz, Denali, and Sitka are making all sorts of noise over the hill but it's been a long time since he has heard the voice of another polar bear.

Sadly the two closest living polar bears, Gus and Ida in the Central Park Zoo recently became one isolated polar bear. Ida was euthanized last year at age 25 because of liver cancer. She will be missed.

But Tundra is a star in this town and he may live for another twenty-five years or so. As you can see this same photo is the picture I use to identify myself here and also many other places on the web. The resemblance is uncanny but I'm no star.
